Deep in the tropical jungles of the Caribbean, along a worn path, lies some stonework buildings in ruins. A perfect place for natives to ambush unsuspecting Spaniards.
This is a small 2’x2′ demo board commissioned for Firelock Games and their 28mm pirate miniatures game, Blood & Plunder. The design of this board was to facility a quick show of the basic rules, with balanced terrain from either side of the board. Some quick sketches were made to give a sense of terrain balance for each side, while giving each side a bit of uniqueness.
As with most terrain in real life, it’s not always perfectly flat (unless you live here in Florida), so we try to build some natural feeling elevation into all of our pieces, even if it is just slightly so. This subtly gives the entire board an organic feel that building on a perfectly flat board does not.
We would consider this more of a budget board, but even with that in mind, it is always important to vary the vegetation as much as possible. Even if you are just painting or adding washes to the grass flock, anything you can do to give natural variation to the board, the better.
This board like many of our boards, was built upon a sturdy high quality plywood and pine frame. Making the board durable during use and transport is important to make sure it lasts for a long time to come.
